Discovering Red Strawberries

In this scene Super Baby introduces Jessy to the color red with the help of some delicious strawberries. I'm excited to demonstrate the color technique I am envisioning, so I may change my format and post a sketch, then the final illustration with full and one color treatments.

Prepare for Takeoff

Here's sketch 2. Super Baby and Jessy are flying over town. I learned my technique for scanning line art while working at The New Yorker Magazine. The trick: 1200 dpi and proper threshold setting.

Here is the first page of the book. Super Baby visits the main character Jessy who is sick in bed with color fever.

Welcome to my "Super Baby" blog. I've created a new super hero—SUPER BABY. Super Baby is here to help kids and babies in trouble. I'll post the books here as they develop. First sketches, then finished illustrations, then fully designed pages with text.

I think it will be fun to watch the books develop piece by piece.

This is Super Baby's first book and first adventure—Super Baby's super glasses help teach kids color.

This first post is my first sketch of the little Super Baby character with a rough type treatment. My favorite part so far the 'S' shaped hair on the top of Super Baby's head.

I've finished other children's books, this is the first to get a blog. If you are wondering how I work on the books: first I get the idea, then I write the story, next comes the sketches, followed by final illustrations, and the graphic design.
